Since July, we’ve heard a lot about K2 overdoses in the District. To answer some of your questions, I spent an entire day learning more about the deadly synthetic drug and the challenges that city officials are facing.
What I learned:
I discovered that K2 is a cheap drug that is mainly used by those who are experiencing homelessness, which is why the city’s Department of Behavioral Health is constantly sharing information about the dangers through outreach on the streets. The agency is targeting areas like New York Avenue.
In the meantime, prosecuting those who produce the synthetic drug seems to be a big challenge.
