Five free events coming up in the DMV in September

(1) Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge 5K & Community Day

Description: “Mayor Muriel Bowser invites residents from across all eight wards to celebrate the bridge opening with a day of family-friendly fun, food, and live music. Residents of all ages and abilities are invited to join The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge 5K fun run/walk!”

Schedule:

  • 7:30am – T-Shirt Pick-up at Audi Field. All registered 5K participants will receive a commemorative logo t-shirt.
  • 9:00am – The 5K Fun Run/Walk. The fun run/walk will kick off from the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge!
  • 10:00am – Community Day Celebration. After the 5K, Mayor Bowser and the District Department of Transportation will host a community celebration.

(2) Wind Down Thursday at MGM National Harbor – September 9, 2021

Description: “FREE Jazz and R&B Summer Concert Series / June 10th – Sep 30th from 6:30-8:30pm

Location: Located at MGM National Harbor, Outside on the Potomac Plaza

(3) 19th Annual Alexandria Old Town Art Festival

Description: “The 19th Annual Alexandria Old Town Art Festival is heading back to John Carlyle Square in 2021! John Carlyle Square is a mixed-use community within the Eisenhower East area of Alexandria and includes high-rise residential complexes, hotels and retail establishments. The neighborhood in historic Old Town includes a variety of natural open spaces and parks, and a retail/entertainment center, serving both a local and regional market. Alexandria is recognized as one of the country’s premier artistic hubs. All artwork is juried, which provides a higher level of quality, diversity and creativity of art on display, exemplifying the gifted artists in regions from all over the country. The show is rated as one of the top 100 art shows in Sunshine Artist Magazine.

(4) Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, Reston, Sep 10 – 12

Description: “The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival returns to Reston Town Center for a weekend of quirky, unique, and beautiful art. Streets are closed to traffic and lined with booths staffed by the artists, who are happy to answer questions and discuss their work. The event opens Friday night with a party at the pavilion, then continues all day Saturday and Sunday. There is also live entertainment and food.”

(5) Mosaic Fall Festival, Fairfax, Sep 25 – 26

Description: “Enjoy live music, a beer and wine garden, food from 40+ vendors, and more at the annual Mosaic Fall Festival. The two-day festival also includes a craft fair, farmers market, and special activities for kids. Free; 11:00 – 6:00 daily.”
